Down memory lane for Heavener and the area events from one year ago to a hundred years ago.
ONE YEAR AGO
2024: Heavener’s High School baseball team got a no-hitter as the Wolves snapped a six-game losing streak with an 8-0 win over Buffalo Valley in consolation play at the Smithville Tournament Friday… In the April 2 school board election, Gary Hecht outpaced Tony Riley in Poteau and Kerry Hollie II scored a big win… Jobless rates were up for most of Oklahoma’s counties in February’s report from the Oklahoma Employment Securities Commission as McIntosh had the high unemployment rate at 6.7 percent, Seminole was second followed by Haskell. Dewey County had the lowest rate at 2.4 percent… Several LeFlore County players have been named to the all-conference team for the Rock Island Conference. The coach of the year is Noah Davis of Kinta, a former Heavener graduate who now coaches Heavener’s girls. County players named to the team were Dartyn Meeks and Landon Donaho of Wister, Malachi Releford and Gavin Gotes of Panama. Honorable mention players were Riley Crane of Wister and Brendin Nixon.
